A cat is a cherished member of the family. Thats why you should do everything you can to make sure that they dont get fleas, ticks, and other parasites. Knowing more about cat care can make your relationship more enjoyable. Keep reading here to discover some excellent tips to help keep these pests away.

If you absolutely must bathe a cat, set everything up in advance. Set up two tubs large enough to dunk a cat. Fill them with comfortably warm water. Set your open bottle of cat shampoo, a heavy towel, and a secure pet carrier close by. Wear heavy rubber gloves. Grasp your cat by the scruff of the neck. Dunk, shampoo and scrub quickly in one tub. Dunk to rinse in the second tub. Wrap the cat securely in the towel and place in the carrier to dry.

Exercise

Cats love to play so make sure that you provide them with lots of toys. Cats enjoy batting around a fake mouse or little ball around the room. Some cats even develop a favorite toy. Playing with your cat is not only fun, it helps them to get exercise too.

A great toy for your cat is a laser pointer. Cats love to chase the laser around and try to catch it. This will help you give your cat some exercise, while your cat is having fun at the same time. It will also help to fine-tune their hunting skills.

Keep your cat amused. Just like dogs, cats need playtime and physical exercise, too. Too many cat owners forget this simple fact. Bored cats will quickly wreck your home or become obese. Make sure your cats have a wide variety of toys and plenty of room for active play. Give them a cat tree to play with.

Let your cat exercise their hunting instinct. Cats are natural born hunters; however, this does not mean you need to allow mice to invade your home. Hide treats and toys throughout your home, and your cat will have a blast hunting down their treats. You can also find feather and laser toys that your cat can chase and pounce on.

Nutrition

Choose a high quality food. The key to a healthy cat starts with nutrition. Take a look at the ingredients label. If you look at most "popular" commercial cat foods, you may be surprised to see the top ingredient listed is corn. Cats are carnivores, so look for a food with a real meat as the top ingredient. You may pay more up front, but these foods are often more nutritionally dense, meaning your cat eats less and the bag lasts longer.

Although depicted in countless movies and cartoons, milk is not the best source of nutrition for your cat. Once cats have grown, they do not need milk as a regular part of their diet. Milk can cause stomach distress and bloating. Instead of giving your cat milk, always have fresh, clean water available to them instead.

Feed your cat quality cat food. Look at ingredient lists, making sure that a protein source, such as beef, chicken or fish, is at the top of the list. Try omitting non-protein based foods such as corn from your regular diet. Because cats are carnivores, their diet need only consist of a good source of protein.

Cats can have medical problems, just like humans. They will not go away on their own and need to be treated as soon as they are noticed. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to spoil and safeguard your beloved cat. Your cat is sure to appreciate your efforts.
